Wadsworth Elementary School

Dear Wadsworth Families,

We are sure that you will agree that reading is important EVERY month!

Since March is National Reading Month in our school, our communities and especially in our homes, Wadsworth Elementary will be giving special emphasis to activities that promote reading as a fun and enjoyable experience.  Our theme for this March is:  “Pop Open a Good Book!”

Every grade level has a minimum reading goal, which will be measured in minutes read per day at home, not including homework time.

Pre-K, Kindergarten, and Grade 1:  10-15 minutes per day.

Grade 2 and Grade 3:  20-30 minutes per day.

Grade 4, Grade 5, and Grade 6:  30-40 minutes per day.

Of course, more is always better! J  Have fun and read, read, read! Each week during the month of March, on Sunday, a new reading log begins.  Please use the log to keep track of the number of minutes that your child reads each day.  Younger students may also count time spent listening to family members reading to them.  Students are to turn in a weekly log no later than the indicated due date to receive a prize.

In addition to the reading logs, each homeroom class in grades 2-6 will participate in a “March Madness” reading contest.  The class to get the highest quiz average on their AR quizzes taken will win.  These students will also receive prizes for their hard work!

Our school website, we will have the calendar and reading logs available for downloading if you misplace them.  Please note the events and special school activities that are taking place throughout the month of March!  Students that participate in these special events and school activities will receive tickets for weekly drawings that will take place.

We hope you will join us in our school wide efforts to promote a love of reading, and “Pop Open a Good Book” yourself!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Melanie McClure, Principal
